Job Description

You are a motivated and talented Senior Program Manager responsible for the delivery of innovative Virtual Power Plant (VPP) energy storage solutions in North America. This is an opportunity to join a growing team to shape the landscape of distributed energy resources. You will provide strategic guidance on program design and implementation at Swell Energy. You will influence product design of hardware and software solutions, as well as regulatory policies related to the implementation and valuation of VPPs and energy storage. You are or will quickly become an expert in residential and commercial energy storage systems, aggregation strategies, and energy market participation.

Responsibilities

Manage cross-functional delivery of Grid Services commitments through bilateral contracts, open market participation, and direct-to-consumer programs.

Collaborate closely with Swell Energy teams, including Finance, Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Operations, and IT, to orchestrate successful launch, sustained growth, and healthy programs. Understand and appreciate the roles and responsibilities of each team member with insight into other company activities and objectives.

Provide excellent customer service and project management to electric utility customers and other external partners, including collaborative and proactive communications.

For program launches, lead finalization of program design with attention to contractual obligations, operational model of storage systems, financing, product requirements, sales, installation, and customer experience.

Operationalize the program design into an implementation plan, identifying key tasks, risks, gaps, issues, resolutions, and opportunities.

Ensure projects are delivered on budget and on time, especially to meet contractual milestones and obligations, and are generating revenue as expected.

Build internal and external program summary reports and project schedule tracking. Lead periodic executive-level status reviews and ongoing project team coordination meetings.

Identify, advocate for, and help implement internal improvements to product operations, sales, marketing, installation, and support processes and tools, which improve company-wide program delivery.

Travel within North America, as appropriate.

Requirements

Four-year Bachelor degree, preferably in a technical field such as Engineering or in Finance/Economics.

At least six years of relevant work experience, ideally as a project/program manager delivering solutions within the solar, storage, grid service, or electric utility industries.

Sound knowledge of the U.S. electric energy grid, including regulatory frameworks, marketplaces, business models, grid services, and distributed energy resources.

Experience delivering aggregated grid services, such as demand response, including an understanding of baseline methodologies, participant enrollment, portfolio management, settlement, dispatch management, OpenADR, and DERMs software integration.

Familiarity with contract structures for grid services, participants, and partners. Ability to guide negotiations, amendments, and post-execution management.

Project management certification, such as PMP or PRICE II, a plus.

Proven success delivering customer value throughout the program/project lifecycle.

Ability to influence activities across a wide spectrum of internal and external functions that contribute to program success.

Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement across program, service, support, product, marketing, business development, and sales functions.

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Team player with a focus on quality work and open, candid communication.

Appreciation of self and colleagues as humans with variable capacity and mistakes.

Comfort with the ambiguity and frequent changes that come with transforming markets.

Self-directed, motivated to work remotely, and able to exercise sound judgment independently.
